A repair that does not hold is the expensive kind

We work on heating, cooling and ventilation across Buena Park and the towns around it. The measure we care about is not how fast we get there. It is how often we have to come back — and we would rather tell you why a repair failed than quietly charge you for it twice.

When it comes back

Five ways a repair fails crossed with four things that might have been done. What a genuine callback looks like, what is a second fault rather than the same one, and the top-up that is not a repair at all.

An opened air conditioning service panel beside a Buena Park house with the contactor and capacitor visible and a meter clipped to the terminals.
01 · Why

Most callbacks are one of five things

A part replaced without finding what killed it. A charge adjusted without finding the leak. A symptom treated when the cause was airflow. A fault that was genuinely intermittent and did not show itself. And a second, unrelated failure in an old system, which is not a callback at all even though it feels like one.

Knowing which of the five you are in changes what you should do next, and it changes who ought to be paying.

02 · And

The one worth saying out loud

Refrigerant is not consumed. A sealed system does not use it up the way a car uses oil. If it was low, it leaked, and a top-up with no leak search is a repair that has been scheduled to fail. It is also the most common thing sold as a fix in this county.

What we do

Six things

01

Repair

Diagnosis before parts. The cheap causes are checked first and the reading that proves the answer is shown to you rather than described.

02

Leak search

When a system is low on refrigerant we look for where it went. Adding gas and leaving is not something we offer as a repair, and the page explains why.

03

Annual service

Charge verified by superheat and subcooling, coil and drain cleaned, combustion tested on gas heat, and the readings written down.

04

Airflow

Static pressure measured. A great many repeat faults are a system being starved of air, and the part that keeps failing is the symptom.

05

Replacement

Sized from the building, permitted and tested, with the ductwork looked at first. We will tell you when repair is still the better arithmetic.

06

Premises

Rooftop packaged units, split systems, extract and make-up air, and planned maintenance twice a year for shops, restaurants, offices and light industrial.

03 · Homes

Houses

Buena Park is mostly post-war tract housing with the ductwork in the attic, and that attic is where most comfort complaints in this town actually live. We measure it rather than guess, and we will say when the answer is duct rather than equipment.

04 · Businesses

Premises

The Beach Boulevard and Orangethorpe corridors are full of small retail, restaurants and light industrial on packaged rooftop units. We survey the roof, write down what is there, and maintain it against a record rather than against memory.

Plainly

Five things this website does not print

PricesA repair is a diagnosis with a part on the end of it, and until somebody has looked, a figure here would be a guess dressed as information.
A response timeWe do not publish one. On the first hot week of September nobody in this county can hold to it. We will tell you where you are in the queue when you ring.
A callback rateNot even a good one. It would be a number nobody can check, and this whole site is about not doing that.
Reviews and ratingsThere are none on this site. When there are real ones they will be somewhere you can check them, under their own names.
Questions

Asked most often

My system was topped up with refrigerant last summer and it is low again. Is that normal?

No. Refrigerant is not consumed — a sealed system does not use it up, so if it is low it has leaked. Adding more without looking for the leak is a delay rather than a repair, and the date it runs out is usually the following August. There are honest reasons to top a system up while somebody decides what to do about an expensive leak, but that should be said to you plainly at the time.

The same part has been replaced twice in three years. Why?

Because something is killing it, and until that is found the next one is on the same schedule. Contactors burn because of arcing, which points at a loose connection or a coil not pulling in cleanly. Capacitors go from heat, or from a motor drawing more than it should. Blower motors burn out from restriction. A repair invoice that names a part and nothing else is incomplete, and that is how the same part gets fitted twice.

The repair worked but the house still is not comfortable. Was I overcharged?

Probably not overcharged — probably answered a different question. A fault and a performance complaint are two different jobs. “The back bedroom never gets cold” is not solved by a working compressor. That complaint needs three measurements: static pressure, duct leakage and the airflow actually delivered at that register. They take under an hour and without them nobody has looked at what you asked about.

If a repair you did fails, do I pay again?

Not for the same complaint. If we replaced a part and the same fault returns, we come back and the conversation starts from what we got wrong. If it turns out to be a genuinely different fault, we will show you why with the reading, and it is a new job. What we will not do is treat a returning fault as a coincidence twice.

How quickly can you get here?

We do not publish a response time, and we would be careful of anybody who does — on the first hot week of September nobody in this county can hold to a printed figure. What we will do is tell you where you are in the queue when you ring, and tell you honestly if somebody else can get to you sooner.
